Ellen Samuels – President of KDU UK & Ireland.

I am proud to introduce myself as the current president of KDU UKI, I took up the post in January 2021 after a well-organized and transparent election. The interim team worked well for a year to get things off the ground as KDU UKI is a newly established group.

The group has come a long way to put things in place in terms of our constitution, membership policy, and charity status. The organization is growing from strength to strength and will continue to encourage like-minded people to join our vibrant and interesting group to promote the lives of Krio’s in Sierra Leone. We hope to work with other groups in the diaspora and Sierra Leone to promote our aims and objectives according to our constitution.

I have been part of the KDU family for many years and it is interesting how we use the Krio word “Leh wi ep wisef” loosely but do not really put it into practice to make significant changes in the lives of vulnerable Krio’s in Sierra Leone. Well! I am delighted to say that I am passionate about this charitable organization and will do my utmost best to encourage and empower members so that we can work together and make a change.

I will continue to show my enthusiasm and love for my African heritage and culture. I grow up in an environment with strict traditional discipline such as respecting elders is paramount and keeping our heritage, culture and legacy have always been high on the agenda. I also grew up in a village where the ethos is ‘it is the village that brings up the child’, therefore teamwork is always important to achieve positive outcomes in everything we do. I will endeavor to work with my trustees and general members to encourage and support one another so that we can keep our Krio Heritage alive.

Finally, we will continue to encourage like-minded Krio’s to join KDU UKI which will bring value and richness to the numerous talented members we already have. Together we can move mountains and bring positive change to the lives of our Krio family in Sierra Leone with the help of God.

Responsibility for the management and oversight of the work of the organisation rests with the following elected trustees:
